Gardeners Grove features one overarching player environment with two variants: Overgrown, and Garden Space.

The overarching environment is a dense and sporadically populated environment encapsulating elements from the British countryside - specifically forests and groves of trees.

Overgrown Area

The overgrown area will be populated with various shapes and sizes of plants alongside strands of chaotic grass and wildflower textures. This is the area in which the player can see different wild plants and begin to collect clippings to plant into their garden area.

The placement of these plants will be random and each player will start with an overgrown area that has a specific set of randomly chosen plants. This set of plants will be different per player, but will only contain plants from the primary and secondary category of breeds.

Garden Space

As for the garden space-variant, the player will be able to mark out this area; creating whatever shape they desire. Once the area is marked out, the patch of grass in that area will change colour slightly to show that it well-kept and loved. All chaotic grass and wildflower sprites will be removed from the garden space and the player will then be able to pick up any plants left in their garden area and arrange them how they want to.

Progressing further into the game, the player has the chance to unlock an array of decorative items such as paths, rocks, ponds, and benches. Because the player has free-choice as to where they can place these items, the goal is to give them decor that flows well together in order to create a coherent space; much like Japanese zen or stroll gardens.
