Gardeners Grove will contain an understandable plant breeding system which allows players to figure out what plants breed specific types. To do this it uses simple geometric shaped plants and basic colour mixing theory.

The breed created by combining plant clippings will come from two genetic factors:

As plants are bred they become more complicated in shape and colour mix. To easily be able to categorise these plants, Gardeners Grove uses a Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary system.

Primary plants are the shapes that players find when they first start the game. Primary plants are used to breed all types of Secondary plants. Then Tertiary plants are more complex variants that are made from both Primary and Secondary shapes. Tertiary plants are where players may find rare breeds and mutations that differ from the very geometric-style Primary plants.

With more complex plants, there will be a different probability for each plant type that can grow from one combination, allowing for some plants to be much rarer than others.
